When Maine Road was knocked down it was sad but I never pine for the ground. What I do miss is the streets surrounding the place, the sense of generations of fans having been walking round those same streets on match day, just the old routine really.
I occasionaly pop down there and even though there is no ground, it's still there, that magical feeling of being that place I went to when I was a child is still there.
With Knowsley Road it can be the same. Walk down from town, pop in the Bull, head to the Crispy Cod. Unless they bulldoze the entire area, it will still get the old goose bumps rising.
THIS YEAR LENDING SUPPORT TO:- St. Helens RLFC, Manchester City, Celtic, Alemannia Aachen, Steps 1 to 6 Non-League Football
Some quite breathtaking photos here from an external site, sad but good quality of the demolition.

Gone, but never forgotten
Knowsley Road
1890 - 2010
does anyone know when the rest of themain stand is to be pulled down? :-s
From my understanding, that's exactly as it happened and that's why the photos look more like the aftermath from a hurricane rather than a planned demolition.
Similar to a job on Manchester airport when terminal 1 was demolished. I caught the scousers ****ing all over the Matt Buzby fountain prior to them ripping it apart. I think they'd have done it for free.
The place looked like they'd all just got up and left the gaff. Ashrays full and half finished drinks etc, really wierd.
Nobody said life would be easy
How Knowsley Road is looking these days
KNOWSLEY ROAD 1890-2010. A part of history soon to be no more...the place that meant so much to so many people. Farewell old lady, forever in our hearts.
heart wrenching
I was told yesterday that difficulties are arising demolishing the remains of the family stand because of bats. Not sure how true that is like.
WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF POOR BEN FLOWER?!
I'd believe it to be very true, the story I heard back in March was the pop side was full of them and so couldn't be demolished until after breeding season, or some sort of wildlife protection red tape.
Looks like they moved from the pop to the main stand (or the person who first told me about bats wasn't completely accurate).
If that's the case then it will be at least September before they could demolish it. Mother had bats in her loft and as stated nothing could be done about it, but was told once September had been, they would go off elsewhere then the council would come in and sort out where they had got in from.
ONLY ONE STEVE PRESCOTT
They could still sell the main stand to Leeds.
Is that the telephone box on Dunriding lane?
If it is it was where I used to meet my now Fiancee on matchdays when I first got with her 9 years ago, and now theres a house right where we used to enter!
Gut wrenching lol
