I still like the commentary on a touring game back in the day, when the commentator mishears the Saints fans singing "the referees a w****r" and says "these St Helens fans are now singing the referee's a wonder!"

Think it wa sagainst NZ and think we've had this conversation before.

Away from RL the best has to be the Varsity Boat Race commentary " ....and Princess Anne kisses the cox of the winning crew"

When Dean Bell went back to Headingley for the first time with Wigan, he was delighted that the crowd were still with him, or so he thought

They were chanting "GENIUS" at him.

It was only later in the game that one of the Wigan players informed him that they were actually chanting "JUDAS"

When Michael Holding the West Indies cricketer was bowling to Peter Willey the commentator said

"The bowlers Holding, the batsman's Willey".

When Dean Bell left Wigan the headline said "Bell ends stay at Wigan" also when West Ham fans wanted Julian Dicks to resign as manager a banner said "Dicks Out".

Harry Carpenter at the start of a boxing match once said "There will be a ding dong when the bell goes"

Here's a few quotes nicked from 'Colemanballs'

In the eyes of the Rugby Union, having a game of Rugby League - whether amateur or professional - is like introducing Aids into the dressing-room.
    Alex Murphy, St Helens coach

The side has been held together by needles and sticking plaster.
    John Monie, coach Wigan RL

On Mondays which I set aside for developing skills and positional play, there were sometimes only four or five players turning up. From the others I’d get excuses like “My wife was having a Tupperware party.
Geoff Wraith, Wakefield Trinity RL coach on his resignation.

I wouldn’t play the French at marbles, never mind Rugby League. All we will ever learn off them is how to fight and spit and bite each other.
    Alex Murphy, Wigan coach

It’s not Terry Holmes that Bradford need - its Sherlock.
Alex Murphy, St Helens RL coach

All we need is a little bit of luck and we could explode.
Roy Lester, Carlisle rugby league coach just before his team were beaten 112-0 by St Helens

His country alone does not make him a world beater alone. He is Australian, but so is Rolf Harris.
Whitehaven News, on local rugby club’s import.

Loads of David Coleman's as well, one of the best of which must be "Linford Christie has a habit of pulling it out when it matters most"............

And then there's Brian Johnson's cricket "getting his leg over" commentry with "Aggers"................lasts about 5 minutes
"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom." Danny Blanchflower.
Might have been written by a footballer about football - but never a truer word............

I liked the one where after seeing a young cheerleader do a series of backflips, Eddie Hemmings asked Stevo if he would like to have a go at that. Eddie couldn't speak for laughing for about two minutes after Stevo asked if he mean't the backflip.

Murray Walker was great for cock ups.

"So it's Escorts 1st, 2nd and 3rd.....(long pause)......not surprisingly because they are all Escorts in this race."

"So here he comes into the pits, I'm going to stop the start watch.....".

When Man City moved to the COM Stadium, City had a fans vote, on who the Stands in new Stadium should be named after, & one of the winning names was Colin Bell, which was later scrapped, as the Stand would have been called"The Bell End".
This is the last play, Long, kicks it wide to Iro, Iro to Hall, Hall is trapped, back it goes to Hoppe, over the shoulder to Hall, there is Jonkers, here is Long and Long fancies it, Long fancies it, it's wide to West, it's wide to West, Dwayne West, inside to Joynt, Joynt, JOYNT, JOYNT!, OH, OH!
They've won it, they've won it, they've won it. Chris Joynt; Chris Joynt has won it. It is unbelievable here, it is, frankly, unbelievable. Chris Joynt has won the match for St Helens.
