    Default Sky+ to DVD

    Evening all

I've been looking into getting a DVD recorder to transfer mainly Saints games onto DVD's and free up space on the Sky+ HD. I know a few people on here have them, as they've posted recorded games to me in the past, but can anyone recommend one? On a reasonably cheap budget too

    Thanks

Does the sky box not have a USB socket. I was thinking you could put the match straight onto an external hard drive.

Yes it does, but having done a bit of googling, it seems that anything on the premium channels (i.e. Sky Sports) is encrypted so that it doesn't work if you take it off the sky box.

I got a Liteon DVD recorder a couple of years ago and it was reasonably priced had good reviews and hasn't let me down.

I usually leave my Sky+ programmes recording overnight and then just finalise the disk the following morning!

I have always used Panasonic ones with built in hard drives. Have gone through 2 now, but I really hammer them!

The thing with getting one with a built in HDD is that you can edit all the adverts etc out frame by frame and can create a menu. If you want to take it further, burn to disk then edit on PC and create really decent menus too. Most recorders do menus anyway but they are very basic.

Never had a problem transferring any Sky Sports recordings to DVD. Got lots of Saints matches saved that way.

There is a problem when trying to copy Sky Movies/Box Office films. This is because the encrypted signal is sent to the DVD recorder so it refuses to record it.
