I quite enjoyed it.
I quite enjoyed it.
I'm too pretty to be unlucky
One complaint was the loudness.
It was IMO at unsafe levels.
Nothing wrong with noise on the dance floor, but away from the floor it needs be at a level were you can talk to people. This includes bar staff, who couldnt hear what people were ordering, despite people shouting at them at the top of their voices.
I went last Saturday had a good night but I 100% agree with you on the loudness. Spend most of the night up near the dance floor. Not only was it very loud but the sound quality wasn't very good which didn't help. My ears were ringing until monday which is not a good sign !
It wasn't particulay busy last Saturday hope it doesnt flop.
Think we should all arrange a night after a Friday home game.
I am glad to announce the following issues have been dealt with for this Friday...
1. New sound system
2. Drinks offers
3. Free entry
So get down after the match for the best Indie / Rock n Roll / Punk Rock / Alternative mix up in town.
I have even designed a little flyer just for you guys lol
Ok folks a couple of things to tell you about...
First off after the match this Saturday "get in Control" @ Indiependence...
Mel Carter ('South' Manchester and back in the day Wednesday night 'Wigan Pier') will be spinning great tracks form old to new and back to old.
Also on Friday 25th we will be launching our bands night. First one will see local lads Urchins headline. At their first ever show in stockport was none other than Johnny Marr ex Smiths now Cribs was highly impressed with the bands imaginative and wide ranging sound. So if it's good enough for Mr Marr?
Also open every Friday and Saturday 10-3am
FREE ENTRY
£1.50 DRINKS OFFERS
Will try and remember this one... always forget this boozer exists. Hope it continues to roll on and on for you.
Hope some of you can make it after the game should be fun

'Sydney2002' I promise to get you a drink if you wear the Mickey Mouse ears
I got in there on Saturday and there was 2 people in there, I didnt realise it only opened at 10pm, I got in there about 10:15pm, had a sneaky bottle of newcastle brown and goosed off, returned later in the evening and it was more populated, must say the music was quality even when there was only a few of us in there, defo hope it continues. Takes me back to my "park lane " days, especialy goign upstairs to the bogs and remembering in the auld days how condensation would be dripping of the ceiling. I had the mickey mouse ears on by the way, but nobody got me a free ale.

Indiependance has died I believe.
Well, that was short lived and even shorter than the six months I initially gave it. lol
I think it just goes to show that such ventures don't work out unless there is a culture for it in the vicinity. Indie clubs work if there are a number of alternative music pubs close by with people moving about between the different venues. The venues, in effect, will feed off each other.
If you have a stand-alone venue in a town synonymous for it's terrible pubs and music scene, then it's doomed because alternative music type people will go to places that offer a sprinkling of venues for them.
It was a nice idea but in a cultureless town such as St. Helens, it never struck me as a viable business plan.

I think you're wrong there Dave. Zoo bar's success was through its choice of indie music.
Indiependence is poor based on a number of things. Two for me:
1. Venue - Not updated from the Maloney days. Poor decor for an indie club. (Awaits 'It's all about the music')
2. Door charge - Initially put people off and now its struggling to bring them back.
I have been in Zoo Bar about half a dozen times. Once, for an hour, they played indie music. The rest of the time, it's been the same old crap that they play elsewhere.
If it was a pure indie venue, Zoo Bar would not have worked and it certainly wouldn't have the kind of clientel that it does.
