I hope Wellens retires from internationals. So then the bonehead public can listen to Offiah and get their wish of Danny McGuire at full back and England can become even more laughable. No skin off my nose.

wellens drops retirement rumour
This isnt like Shearer or Scholes quitting international football, when it made a massive difference to their clubs when they were resting instead of being away at half a dozen England camps every year. If Wello quits England it makes no real difference to Saints this season given that we have no real international games until Oct-Nov.
Or is he jumping before he's pushed?

Wellens to 13 or sub.Assistant coach for two years, then Saints first team coach. It will happen.
If Wello retires due to HIS poor performances, I think that means that:
Gardner, Gleeson, Senior, Lee Smith, Pryce, Burrow, Graham, Roby, Peacock, Hock, Ellis, Sinfield, McGuire, Fa'Asavalu, Morley and Wilkin should also retire???
Exactly my point. Just because Wello had a bad world cup, does that mean HE can't play better than that too? Everyone here and outside of this site seems to be writing him off, saying he's lost a yard of pace etc. I think he'll feel he has a point to prove to everyone this season.
I am glad he is considering International Retirement. This will extend his Saints career and he quite simply doesn't need the abuse. He might not have had a particularly good World Cup, but like Goalkeepers there are players in front of Wellens who could have done a job first before it got to the Full Back.
If anyone thinks Smith is the answer at Full Back, I think they need their heads testing. He is an out and out winger and brilliant in that position. At Full Back, he is woefully inadequate.
