Is there anyone living near Knowsley Road who could just stick their head out the window and let us know if the old place is still standing? Thanks :)

That link just takes you to the homepage mate.

It was felt as far away as Birmingham and Norfolk according to Sky News.

Epicentre at West Torrington, 4 miles North East of Lincoln.

Another quake due at 3am, apparantly.

27th February 2008, 02:43
From the BBC News page...

"The US Geographical Survey's website reported a quake of the magnitude of 4.7 and said the epicentre was 30 miles (50km) south of Kingston-upon-Hull."

It might make Hull look a bit nicer after that! lol

Same here woke up at 1am with bed and computer desk shaking

That was the second strongest quake i have experienced, the worst was in the 1980's at around 7am which really shook the house up, and caused walls to collapse and chimneys to fall down in some parts of the country

i was online when it happened. the chair i was sat in started to shake weirdly.
having not experienced this before i couldn't fathom out what was hapenning.
it was only when i went on the forums that i realised what was what was going on. what i'm trying to say is that someone didn't go on purposely to post a thread, they were already there.

Believe it or not but it has been known on many occasions that people do actually do this!!

How come all you people experienced tremors big enough to wake you up yet I was watching the E4+1 Shameless and didn't feel a thing?

I'd start questioning the soilidity of the foundations of your houses if I were you.

I felt it, but didn't think it was an earthquake. I suppose you just imagine earthquakes as major shakes.

I was stood in my kitchen - felt like a very strong gust of wind against the gable end - enough to rattle the plates in the wall cupboards!! (just north of Warrington). No idea it was an earthquake until I started to read the posts on here.

Wow, I feel like I am a part of history.

So in that case it was seven times less powerful than the one in 1984. No wonder there was only a slight rattling on the window, which I'd put down to a gust of wind.

It was hardly a San Francisco 1906 tribute!

Felt it quite strong in Leeds. Had been extremely windy all day and nearly got blown over earlier yesterday afternoon and my window had been rattling all night anyway so I assumed the house was blowing down! Nearly s**t myself! What annoyed me was the way just after it, Sky news were reporting "tremors felt in Norfolk and Bedfordshire" and just kept showing maps of the south and only once mentioned that they had been felt up as high as Manchester by some people. They just presumed that the epicentre was near Birmingham and obviously it was only important news if it affected Southerners. Then when they realized the epicentre was nearer Hull than Birmingham they still showed it at the centre of the map with just a little symbol right at the top where it started.

And hardly as big as the tremors you felt on Monday night eh! ;) ;)

5.2 according to the Beeb.

A quarter of the power then if I've got my maths head on. 5.3 is double 5.2 and 5.4 is double 5.3.

Damned silly way of measuring things if you ask me!

From the BBC website it appears that the epicentre of the recent quake was Liverpool and not Lincoln as per the earlier reports from the American earthquake tracking station.
You are advised to check all Chimney stacks and structures for damage and advise insureres accordingly. This was the largest incident of the Earth moving for 50 years.
Mr and Mrs Scousedon would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We understand no-one noticed anything at Knowsley Road !!!!!!!!!!

It was really strong here in Atherton. It shuk me out of my bed. My whole house Shuk and all the furniture was shaking too. I know it was only brief but it was mad! The next morning morning my son said to me something really strange happened in my room last night, he said i'm sure this house is haunted. He was gobsmacked that it was an earthquake. Mind you I have learned that we have quite a lot of earthquakes here but we just don't feel them usually.

It would appear silly because you've got it wrong lol (I think!!)

From 5 on the scale to 6 is a 10 fold increase. If each 0.1 incrament was double then going from 5 - 6 would be around a thousand fold increase.
