Does anyone know any good back specialists? I think the correct term is chiropractors. Have had lower back problems on and off for the last year and after playing football last night, have woken up in agony today. Can hardly walk. Looking for someone who can maybe sort this out once and for all and perhaps give me strengthening/stretching exercises. Dont want anyone mega expensive. Anyone know of any that can assist?

Thanks

your best first port of call is your doctors, you could get the treatment on the NHS, or better still sign up to BUPA and put up for a few months and then go the docs, he will then send you private to a chriopractor paid for by BUPA.

I've had a few tumors out in my lower back do struggle sometimes and with the fact i'm 6ft 4in doesn't help my back, but I went private and its all gone well so far, might need more surgery at some point but hey ho.

I'm no doctor or anything, but if your doctor/chiropractor tells you that you need to strengthen your back, there's plenty of decent websites with strength training programmes. Alot of lower back troubles are caused by weak back muscles that need strengthening.

I'm not sure of any chiropractors tbh, so it may be worth visiting your local GP.

I have had back problems many years ago (both muscles and sciatica)

Get to your GP asap and if you are thinking about cutting costs to get it right, don't bother. Just get someone who can fix it and get onto it now.

Can't put a price on your back IMO.

Thanks for that mate. I have had a bit of pysio through work before, so may need to be referred back. The stupid part is that I keep fit with boxing, weights and football. Its not like I am a lardarse or anything!! It seems to be more frequent now so I guess I need it looking at properly. Will take a look at that website and print them off.

I am registered disabled because of spinal injuries, and have been suffering for years. I've been under the knife a few times, but have been told there's no more that can be done.

So, seriously mate, I urge you to get it sorted ASAP.

Get into your GP and get a referral for a MRI scan if it's been going on for a while.

Also, you are entitled to 6 free treatments with an osteopath through the NHS, so get your GP to refer you to one in the meantime. I've been to a few, and the best I've found is in Rainhill village above the post office;
509, Warrington Road, Prescot, L35 4LP
Tel: 0151 4311700

If you want any more help PM me as I've become a bit of an expert on backs over the years due to my experiences.

Thanks for your assistance. I think I have got to the bottom of it now though. I spoke with a doctor at work and when I told him the symptoms and what exercise I do etc he seems to think its the result of my hamstrings being too tight and generally being inflexible. I cant even touch my toes! He explained how everything is linked and has given me some stretching exercises to do. I seem to get the problem after playing football, not through lifting weights. After just a couple days worth of exercises, it feels a lot better and less tense. I have also got the number of a chartered pyshiotherapist who can show me the best exercises etc.

Will give it a go. Thanks again!
