After the end of the season, the weekly man of the match points have totted up.

In third place, we have the Man of Steel, James Roby.

In the runners-up spot, after a dramatic late burst of points, it's James Graham.

And for the umpteenth year in succession, the winner is none other than PAUL WELLENS.

Three youth products in the top three - can't be bad.

And even though he had a shocker on Saturday - Wello is still the best player in the country - well done to him.

Got to say, surprised Graham made it to 2nd. A good last month or two but for most of the season not a patch on Fozzard. Not ripping the lad, I'm a big fan of his and he's still years away from his peak, but I dont think he made as great an impact on this season as some reckoned he would after his breakout year in 2006, and I dont think he was anywhere near our second best player over the season.

It's a problem with the system I suppose.

This is why I introduced a top three points system because if you just totted up man of the match winners last year, someone like Adie Gardner could have one great game, be rubbish in all the others, yet finish above the man who finished second in the poll every week.

I agree, Graham was average for much of the campaign, but his superb form over the last couple of weeks earned him a mammoth amount of points, when he was well down the pecking order not so long ago.

Maybe next year we can ask fans to name their top three every match and we might get a better reflection.

Despite the poor showing on Saturday, 2 of the best players in the league, if not the best, in the top 3, a good season overall from the 3, Congrats :D

Paul Wellens throughly deserved this and probably deserved to win man of steel. If wello keeps on doing what he done this season into next season I would certainly back him for man of steel.

I'd agree Wellens has been player of the year. Graham, was by his own high standards average for the first half of the season. Since then though he's been immense. Incredible work-rate. Graham, Ellis and Peacock have by some distance been the best forwards over the last 2 months in SL.

Well done Wello!

Surprised to see Mike bennett so far down the list, shows I suppose how little his immense workload with little reward goes unnoticed. he has broke a tackle this year though and even scored a couple of tries - I nearly fainted at Wakey!

Perhaps Gardeners position shows people's divided opinion of him, some people would never vote for him in any game, and probably a truer reflection is big Willie, who I think we have seen the best of - still defensively sound, but reminding me more each week of Keith Senior in a ''not much of a threat going forward" type of way...

I was waiting for it. lol

You won't like my Dad at the moment. He came upto me before and said he'd re-watched the Grand Final and his words where as follows - "I tell you what, I didn't notice at the time, but Gidley was absolutely awful on Saturday."

I think Dave got it right with Gidley in his player review thread.
