Been there 3 times this morning, dogs knackered, must admit you get a tingle.

You can count about 14 rows on the terrace thats already been erected, so about another 8 rows bringing it up to the 22 rows thats on the plans, gives an idea how big the stand will be.

Which part of the build is the steel works on. Is it the seated stands or the standing terrace? I'm going to be seated on row M which is row 13 so that gives me some idea of the height/view I will have. I noticed at the Hobart that my seat in the North Stand corresponds to my seat in the new stadium exactly down to the seat number too.

Its the seated main stand (south) you along with other poster will be in the north stand facing this one now being built. the cam is working and shows how much progress they have made since dinner time, also shows the full hight of the terrace.

After months, years or talking about a need for a new stadium and then the whole planning issues to see some steel going up is a massive, massive step. Despite works going on for the past few months this is for most when work really begins.

I remember going to a fans show event type effort in the offices on the site well over 5 years ago to see the plans and it's took a long, long time to get tho this stage but it's good to know that daily we should see our new stadium developing and turning into the ground a team of our standing deserves.

I was on a website last month it was saying that they are now building the biggest Tesco its 150 thousand square feet, there is one already at 140 thousand, this one is also 140 thousand square feet. sometimes they quote sales space other times they quote overall space, but its a big-un.

I had heard they don't taste as nice as they used to, since Pimmies closed down. When I first moved back to Somerset, everytime I came back I would bring back Pimmies Pies and Milk Roll. Having gone into Blackburns on Cambridge Road on Monday, their Steak Pies are still as nice as I remember :)

When I drove by earlier I thought the same - but wondered if the winds today had slowed things down? I'd imagine swinging steel into place in gusty conditions is hard work and not really worth risking. However i'm no expert in steel frame!

EDIT: After saying that i've just checked the webcam and it looks like the low level steel part is moving on well, looks like half a stand length or more is in place.

Some info re the stand your seeing being built

This is the South stand were the corporate people will sit.

Currently can be seen the frame for the terracing and the big vertical poles (that look like Rugby posts) which will infact help support the roof.
The roof line is a short way above were these vertical poles narrow.
At the top of these poles there is a short cross bar that makes a "t" shape. This is to attach either steelwork or cabling to support the roof below it.
There are 18 of these poles in the south stand between the four floodlight cloumns, after which the seats start to curve round to the east and west

The stand itself goes a lot further back than the steelwork currently indicates. It will infact come out to only a couple of metres from the fencing at is widest point.

djgazza
10th March 2011, 02:29
Was looking at ariel plan in the official brochure yesterday and it looks like the extremity of the south stand will come up right to the road inside the site. So as I said in an earlier post, if you look at the original picture in the same brochure the approach area to the stadium looks massive, so I can't work it out in my mind's eye. By the way that brochure was printed in 2007, 4 years ago

Everyone can see them on Redvee, as its an open website available to all. You dont need to be a member of Redvee to view this forum and see the pics

Facebook on the other hand is a private members chat club, so putting stuff on facebook precludes people who dont have facebook from actually seeing the pics unless you make sure you use the "everyone" setting.

Otherwise you are making the photos private, which is not the intention of people on this site, who are sharing them for the world at large to see.

Most people remember still dont have facebook accounts.

A view of the Stadium site with teh extent of the stand construction. Please note that the Tescos will pretty much fill the left hand half of the site on this picture when complete, which gives you some idea of its size

Was up billinge hill yesterday and the new stadium can be quite clearly seen from any point on the road leading upto the hill (from Crank Road), as you stop and look back towards the town, it's at the bottom right of the large gas tower, the 7 stansions were really easy to pick out. I would imagine when built it will be as easy to see as the JJB is on the other side.
Never could see knowsley road from up there.

Just had a look this morning saw two crane's arrive on the cam, can only see one on site, anyway the one you can see is not a cantilever type, but it is a giant its a big power crane and is being assembled along the floor, big long box section jib about 25 yards long, my guess its for the precast concrete terracing, it could also be used for low level steel erection.

Thats the one Chair Maker, dosent look nimble enough to erect high rise steel, there is loads of steel stacked on site now, at this rate it will take till next year to errect four stands, need more steel erectors.

Crawler crane is the hard to get to places that a wheeled crane cannot and can be built to a fair size. The White air bags are exactly that I expect,White bags full of air that should be placed around the wagon with steel on as fall protection for the chap who chains it up.
Looks like it full steam ahead based on your reports. It's good to see every weekend when I come home. One construction site I won't be sick of seeing.

You must have a good camera. One hell of a zoom on it. Mine's a compact digital from six years ago with a zoom that probably gets me about three inches closer! I haven't even attempted new stadium shots but now that there is actually something big and visible on there I might try at the weekend!

No, the advantage of living in Thatto Heath is that I'm only 5 minutes from the new stadium and Knowsley Road. My camera is a Panasonic Lumix TZ7 with 12x zoom. If you plan on taking pics of the new stadium stand over the other side of the Linkway from Burger King or I also go to Peasley Cross Lane, park up over the other side of the road and try to get a good vantage point as you're closer to the stadium on that side

It's about a 70 ton capacity crane (max lift) so hardly a giant as crawlers go as they only typically start from around 50 ton, but given the length of jib it's rigged with it will only be good for 3 or 4 ton at the radius (or reach) it will be working at. So it will be used for lifting the steel work at higher levels, overhangs, roof etc.

Dont own a camera SP, anyway big pour on the North stand is right, past half way when I got there, should be boxed off for about 3ish.
They look to be running out of steel, very little left on the floor and none on trailers, at least it shows they are keeping to schedule.
The West stand has had some steelwork added to the back of it, giving more depth to the struture, dont think the South will be linked to the West just yet as that corner is used as an access to the inner stadium, add to that they are now errecting the East end of the South stand.

Having just driven past for the first time since the steelwork started to take shape. I have to say it looks even more fantastic in the flesh, although the photos are great, you really need to go and see it in the flesh to appreciate how imposing it looks and a lot closer to the linkway than I imagined. It also appears to tower over the Tesco as it stands.

Do you know? thats strange because the plans have the storage area where the tesco car park will be. Also they have an access road at the east of the site close to PX road that follows where the new access road will be for tesco goods in.

Site Compound with the access road and storage (http://llpgport.oltps.sthelens.gov.uk:8080/portal/servlets/AttachmentShowServlet?ImageName=158626)
Also the steelwork that has been erected looks different from the plans aswell
where they have started the west stand has a step about 1meter higher than the rest.
