Hello all. My first post here so be nice :p

Chose the name, because that's the one I was given back when I served my time at Pilks quite a few years ago, due to my striking resemblance of the man himself. So those of you "of an age" will already have worked out, I aint no looker!

OK, so back in those days I had a gang of great mates, who followed the Saints home & away. We never missed. Tuesday night at Hull, no problem, we were there. That was a few years ago now though. We were struggling to match wigan & widnes in those days. I sort of packed in & missed the last 25 years. Were we any good? :D

So last year I decide that my lad (now 12), a fine footballer, needs to learn about graft & commitment, so I started taking him to Saints games. He's had an Everton season ticket since he was 6, so he learns plenty of that from Tim Cahill, who I reckon could switch tomorrow & make it (the guy is a legend!), but I just wanted him to learn more! Took him to 5-6 games last season, including the tearful farewell to the old lady.

Anyway, I just booked tickets for the wanky-wire game. FORTY ONE NOTES for me & the boy??? :wtf: Only an hour ago, I booked us tickets for EFC v Reading FA Cup 5th round & they were £30

Now I don't want to upset anyone here, but Rugby League is NOT football. A game played in 2 states of Australia & 2 counties of England versus the biggest game in the world (I don't make the rules, I'm just sayin...). It can't cost even a quarter as much to stage an RL match as a footy match. Players must be on 1/3 at most, policing a 15k crowd compared to a 40k crowd etc......

Where are these prices coming from????

When I used to go, RL was a family sport. We used to see whole families, Gran, parents & kids. That's like a 3 figure deal now!!!

What's going on?

Also, while I'm ranting :D, who is running the Rugby League? Why games at Cardiff? What is that about?? Who needs teams in London or Wales?? I would far rather attend a grudge match against that lot from down where it smells. They really got sh1t on, didn't they?

So how much are Season tickets? I couldn't find an option on the Saints site.

using the everton/reading game as an example of football ticketing prices is a tad unfair.this is a cup tie against a championship team.how much would it be for you and the boy to go and watch everton against man utd?that is the comparison.if your boy had a season ticket at saints, that would get him free admission to all away games as well as home games, not bad value?
if you're that ••••••ed off i suggest you stay at goodison if it is such good value, even if the ground should have been modernised years ago.another example of football looking after its supporters.

If you buy your son a junior season ticket it also has tickets for all away games and some Challenge cup games. I'm not sure but they were about £35 for what would be standing at the new stadium I think. You can check by going onto the Saints official website. That should save quite a bit. An adult Season ticket can varydepending on what you want. the highest are about £200. I can't remember exactly without checking myself so I will let you do the checking. lol

which are way above ANY RL ground prices. Maybe you got cheap tickets for an FA Cup game but RL prices are way below Prem football. I have a friend who is a Leeds Utd season ticket holder. And our family season ticket for Saints for 2 adults and 2 kids is less than her single adult season ticket.

:D No matter how carefully you phrase something, you always upset someone!

I wasn't trying to make any point, just stating simple fact. EFC have 5-6 players on £40-65k PW. I imagine Reading will have several on £20k. The cost of staging a 40k crowd event & a 10k one is also very different.

So do you think £23 & £17 for consessions is a realistic price? Do you think that's priced to attract crowds?

As I keep saying, I'm not here to argue. I think Rugby League players deserve the same money as footy players for the way they put heir bodies on the line, but it's never gonna happen!

Surely it's worth getting season tickets for the kids. If you only make 4/5 games a season then you are still better off than paying on the gate or buying a ticket from the shop for 4/5 games.

How do they handle the Away tickets? Does the season ticket holder have to claim the tickets they want? (I'm assuming the other club doesn't grant access with a Saints season ticket???).

They must transfer some money to the other club then?

Let's face it, it's all over-priced & over-hyped. Yes, it's a short career, but when they're making a good annual salary every WEEK!!! it's gone too far!

Most clubs take the vouchers from the season ticket booklet. You have to swop them for tickets for the big games like Wire and Wigan, but generally you just hand them over at the turnstiles. Saints tell you before games if you need to swop them.

How many season ticket holders are there? It's a bloody good deal given most away games are in a 60 mile radius.

So do they transfer funds to the home team or do they just all agree to do it?

Agent Mulder
20th February 2011, 20:08
All SL clubs do it and have done for years. Therefore there is no need to re-emburse another club. I think we usually have around 6000 + season ticket holders in total.

Red_V_Roger
20th February 2011, 20:15
FWIW...

We pay on teh gate $20 to get in to Cronulla Sharks - thats a general terrace standing ticket. At current exchange rate thats about 13 quid, on the more traditional exchange rate its about 8 quid.

Plus we get a return bus for $2 and its about 8 - 10 miles.

I think UK ticket prices are too high, especially when the facilities were KR.

CHANNEL22
20th February 2011, 20:15
They just all agree to do it. If I had to pay for me and two children I would not go to many away games, but the "free juniors" makes it a good deal and we go all the games (unless it clashes with swimming). The other club benefits as I pay for my ticket, buy a programme and more often than not a half time draw ticket.

We also have Rail cards so, for example, a trip to watch Saints at Huddersfield for the three of us is less than £40.00. Wigan £25 including programme. You cannot beat that for value.

Don't get me started.
I got ejected from the stadium the other week (Goodison), because i used my little brother season ticket, because he was unwell, they let me stay in for 2 hours until the game kicked off, then ejected me and made me pay to re-enter £38.00! It was only Tottenham for god sake! My Season ticket at Saints last year was only £25, and i got 29 matches included in that!
When Everton Play Liverpool or United, they stick £7 premium on all adult tickets, so a cheapest ticket for an adult would be £38, the equivilant of your Saints-Warrington ticket.

I love my football, but only the cup games at reduced prices now!

Bobbyrlfc
21st February 2011, 01:03
Oh i think the whole reason for having cheap kids tickets was that if 1 out of 5 kids get hooked for just £25 a year, and have a season ticket for £60, it'll follow on for generations. If Rugby league well and truly takes off, and gets the media attention Yawnion gets, then more people will follow and an 18,500 stadium will be well and truly justified in years to come, with these £25 tickets is stays a family sport and keeps kids keen.

Speaking of ticket prices, does anybody know why student concession tickets are no longer?

I went last week to get my new shirt and to get tickets for the Wire game to find out that there is no such thing as a student concession unlike last season. So cost of my ticket has gone up from £11.50 to £18.50.

Is that just a Saints policy while at the temporary stadium or is it a league wide thing?

FIVE QUID POSTAGE too!

That really is taking the P155!

They will kill the future of Rugby League at this rate. IMHO

If you tell them when you call about tickets you can do a ' collect at store / ground'. I live away from St Helens so I have to think in advance, but it can and does work for me. I expect when they have sorted the teething problems with the new and updated website, they will have a tickbox option for this too, as they had till the end of last season. The reason the tickets are posted at £5 is because they were going missing in the postal system and this prevents this, another reason to collect at the ground.

I think there is need for a debate on pricing. In an ideal world I think all kids would be admitted free or for a nominal sum with a full price paying adult. Get them hooked young and they will be a fan / customer for life. However a few quick bullet points to throw in the debate

1. The club is ( and has been ) trading losses for sometime. Can a business that is trading at a loss afford to cut prices further ?
2. We are playing a full season away from home and this is bound to hit gates and income.
3. Football receives a far higher level of funding from the TV companies than SL. I think comparisons are therefore meaningless.

Yep. I asked for an adult and a student concession for the wire game. I had all of my letters of enrolment for this year to register as a student (seems to make it easier when buying tickets over the phone etc). They said they don't do student concessions so I had to get an adult ticket.

I was in abit of a rush so I didn't have time to question why not.

Actually the ticket prices were £20 and £10. However, with 5 home games in 13 days, playing against a League Two side and live on ITV1, to only get 1,000 less than what Everton got at home to Chelsea in the same round, is a great attendance.

You work out the cost of 5 home games in 13 days for a family of three or four, even if the tickets for three of those games are cheap.

What good does a leaflet do though? I'm sick to death with dealing with when business' change clauses in my degree but I understand the frustration now!

Saints have to make it clear that they are no longer allowing students to use concession tickets. If I went into the shop and bought it then they probably would have informed me of the change, but if they offering a service whereby you can order tickets online then they must make it clear that they have scrapped the scheme. My friends use the student concession offer and they didn't realise that this was the case until I told them.

All it takes is a side note stating a change has been made to the norm, this could cost me entry into the game on Friday

I don't ever remember seeing a leaflet, and even if there is one it could have done with being publicised better.

I don't particularly have a problem with them not selling student concession tickets (obviously the extra £7 would feel a little better in my pocket), it just seems a little strange that they have suddenly gone! Also a little strange they won't be at the new stadium (if what you say is correct), i'd love to know what the reasons are.

I already knew with the petrol prices being the way they are now, that i wouldn't be able to get to as many games as i have done in previous years, with a 360 mile round trip.

The fact that the ticket prices are now quite high too, makes it a very, very expensive day out.

Should have bought a 5 yr season ticket, it meant you got this season free, of course that wasnt true in the end, but shhhhhh we wont talk about that ;)

They're £20 for all but the South Stand aren't they? If so, then that isn't ridiculous. It's just a £1.00 rise from last season, and for that we've got a stadium as opposed to an outsized toilet!

23.50 advanced. think its 25 on the gate. If they cant sell this game out it looks like there will be some poor attendances this year.
