That could turn out to be a very shrewd move.

Its the only sensible decision, now potential investers can take over the club without most of the historic debt

Does this effectively mean they won't be in Super League next season? After all administration was a big thing that the RFL advised dinted Widnes' application in the last phase of applications to Super League.

The convenient thing about no relegation is that clubs can go into administration, wipe out their debts and the points deduction means bugger all. Yet another fundamental flaw in the no promotion and relegation system that we live in.

Except that going into administration is a massive black cross in the financial solvency criteria next time the franchise is up for grabs. Wakefield are very unlikely to get a franchise now, unless they move somewhere outside their current location.

They will if they are unable to pay off any debt or if they do not have some sort of capital against which to secure any of the debt. That was explained in the RL press after the hoo-ha about Crusaders getting four points docked while Championship clubs have had up to nine points docked. It is likely Wakefield will get the maximum possible because based upon the reports I have been reading, Wakefield are unable to pay any of their debts.

Going into administration was likely to be the only way the club was ever going to go forward, harsh though that sounds.

True. Although I'm not entirely sure that Crusaders can honestly say they have anything that Wakefield don't bar county boundary issues.

It's a two horse race now, that's for sure. Happy days for Castleford.

they have gone. Next season if Crusaders and Harlequins are so much as breathing. Wakey will be the example to bring in Widnes. However the CEO of the RFL also wants Fax at the party

well it should be really, but don't they just love moving the goalposts at the RFL (or is it the sticks). Expect we will hear soon enough.

If the same criteria is used that kept Widnes out last time then both should automatically go - BUT with this being the RFL we know that wont be the case

Widnes will be in anyway you'd presume - its going to be interesting to see if any of the others get in

One promoted club is chosen ahead of the relegated clubs. This seems wrong to me as, three months later, when they choose the clubs to go down, then if they do choose two, then they have to promote another club later on who will have three months less time to prepare.

Why not simply do it as we did last time with a full franchise announcement in June, or is that too simple?

The decision is going to be announced in March isn't it? Didn't the RFL state last time that they believed more time was needed for clubs to prepare and so the announcement would take place earlier this time around?

JC or is it just GC

In my opinion Wakey got in last time under false pretences and shouldn't even be considered for this next application. Wrexham/Crusaders at least have rescued the South Wales franchise and should be given an opportunity to shine. Widnes will bring absolutely nothing to the superleague that isn't already there in terms of expansionist desires. Halifax are pretty much in the same boat as Widnes. The only team that should be given the chance is Barrow/Cumbria and they have minor problems such as no adequate stadia in which to promote this game of ours and fulfill the desire to expand the game. There are of course several French clubs who already meet most of the criteria demanded so perhaps this is the way to go.

unsure why, I heard rumours they were close to financial trouble last year...already enough yorkshire clubs in the mix as well
