Talk about an absolute dump. These are showing it being used for Stock Car racing but. Its basically just a dirt crater with a pitch at the bottom of it.

I remember the terraces having wooden railway sleepers on them. Players used to stay on the pitch at half time as the changing rooms were right at the top.

Yep....1954 Challenge Cup Final Replay ......between Warrington and Halifax........102,569.......lot of bodies that. There always used to be a picture of that particular crowd in the Clubhouse at The Odsal.

Incidentally the site itself used to be a landfill that they turfed over............always was and always will be a dump.

even as late as the 1980's there was talk of it being a 60,000 all seater stadium, i remember going to a saints game there in the mid 80's and they had put a few sections of seats on the open terrace opposite the main stand , maybe this was the start of the scheme and it was abandoned but the seats were removed soon afterwards

Looking at those pics it's clear to see Odsal has barely changed in 30 years, even after it was supposed to be modernised with it's closure for a few seasons in the early 2000's.

Still got to say I like tradition and old stadium, many memories and stories that new stadium lack
